Movers Meet-Up

Movers Meet-Up is a community group  where we will meet twice a month via Zoom to share resources, ask for and lend support, brainstorm, collaborate, and benefit from the hive mind with other yoga and movement teachers. This industry can be lonely and with current lockdowns and so many of us moving to online teaching, it’s become even more infrequent that we see our peers for meaningful connection.

These meetups will happen on alternate Fridays from 12-1:30pm EST. If you can’t make it every week for the whole time, please feel free to pop in late or duck out early; however, the intention is that we block off this time to dedicate ourselves to the group and take full advantage of these bi-weekly connections. Each call may not go on for 90 minutes and if they come to a natural fizzle out and that’s fine, but I want to book the time so that we can be clear about the boundaries and we will not go past 1:30 p.m.

These calls are intended to be casual and the topics we discuss will be co-created by you: Do you have a problem you’re struggling with in your business? A topic you’d like feedback about? Do you want to hear people’s experiences with a particular platform? Or get feedback on a new concept you’re toying with? Maybe you just want a time where you can connect with other like minded leaders in this industry who are dedicated to the elevating our industry, lifting each other up, and participating in a brave and generous space.

Everyone who participates will first agree to our Communication Guidelines (below) and commit to upholding the respectful space we create together. We will also agree not to solicit one another or advertise our offerings unless explicitly requested to do so. The intention is contributing to our success through support and a sharing of ideas.

The number of people who can join our group is limited to allow for everyone to have space to share so, if you’re interested in being a part of this group, please send me an email and let me know. I am asking everyone who joins to give $9 CAD per month to my “Sharing Privilege” account, which is used to give access to my teacher trainings and other services to underserved or marginalized communities.

I really envision this group being a high point for movement leaders to look forward to and to bolster their personal and professional development. It has certainly been an awesome tool for all of us in the group so far!

COMMUNICATION GUIDELINES: As we intend to create a space where we can all feel comfortable sharing, to participate in this group you must agree to the following Communication Guidelines (from AWARE-LA). Please contact me to discuss any of these points:
  1. Welcome multiple viewpoints. Speak from your own experience by using “I” statements. Ask questions to understand the sources of disagreements.
  2. Own your intentions and your impacts. Respect each other’s experiences and feelings by taking responsibility for the effects of your words. On the other side, if you have a strong reaction to something, let the group know. Be open to dialogue. 3
  3. Work to recognize your privileges. Use this space to recognize and investigate your privileges (for example: race, class, gender, sexual orientation, ability. Honor the different experiences that we all bring to this space.
  4. Take risks. Lean into discomfort. We are all in process. Challenge yourself to contribute even if it is not perfectly formulated.
  5. Share speaking time. Try to speak after others who have not spoken.
  6. Notice and name group dynamics in the moment. We are all responsible for this space. Be aware of how others are responding or not responding. Ask for a “time out” or dialogue if needed.
  7. Actively listen. Use your energy to listen to what is said before thinking about how to respond. Notice when defensiveness and denial arise.
  8. Challenging with care. Find ways to respectfully challenge others and be open to challenges of your own views. Think about how to question ideas without personal attacks.
  9. Confidentiality. Share the message, not the messenger.
  10. Break it down. Use simple language and background information when necessary. Ask for clarification if needed.

PROMOTION/SOLICITATION: We will take the last 5 minutes of our meeting so that each person can have 30 seconds to share an upcoming project, training, or other offering that they have coming up so that members might be able to forward business to others in the group, but I REALLY want to reinforce that this is not a networking meeting. The purpose is to find a place where we can share and grow together using our experience, knowledge, and resources, not to forward business to one another. That said, as the group meets more and more often and members may want to support one another, these 5 minutes will give us the chance to hear how we might be able to do so. Other than your 30 seconds, please do not solicit members unless explicitly asked to do so.

DONATION: I am asking each person to donate a minimum of $9 per month to my “Sharing Privilege” account to participate in our group. These funds are used to give access to my teacher trainings, business coaching, and other services to underserved or marginalized communities. This donation will be kind of ‘honour system-style’, so please be sure to click this link  to donate if you haven’t already and include “Sharing Privilege Donation” as a note once per month.

LET IT GROW: Lastly, with the intention of growing our group, please feel free to forward prospective members that you think might be a great fit to this page. I intend to keep the group small enough that we can all have time to share and have a long-term goal of having many of these little groups throughout the week, so share share share!

If you're able to, please contribute to my Sharing Privilege account using this link and include “Sharing Privilege Donation” as a note. These funds are used to give access to my services to underserved or marginalized communities.
