MODULE DESCRIPTIONS

Fundamentals


​This training is designed specifically for yoga teachers to give you first-hand exploration into the Fundamentals of Yoga as a lens to gain perspective into the origins of yoga and the tools to grow your personal practice and help inform your teaching.

You will learn the histories of this practice as it has been told through traditional texts and how those philosophies have shaped yoga as we practice it today.  You will also gain valuable understanding of various yoga archetypes and learning styles to support all students and their practices.

Through this experiential understanding of yoga archetypes, learning styles and the evolution of yoga, you will be able to empower your students through an informed and supportive teaching perspective.

​Anatomy of Movement


This training is designed specifically for yoga teachers to gain in-depth knowledge of anatomy to better understand safe and stable physical alignment to inform your lesson planning and teaching, as well as enhance your personal practice.

You will attain a deeper understanding of anatomy as we explore how the parts of the body synchronize to support range of motion, strength, and coordination and how we relate this information to functional anatomy in all bodies.


Subtle Anatomy

This training is designed to familiarize one with the subtle (pranic) body from the perspective of yoga and yogic meditation.  You will gain understanding of the energetic parts of our being: our Chakras, nadis, Vayus, and Koshas and how they can be layered throughout our teaching and practice.

The Science of Breath

What is happening when we breathe? We inhale and exhale at least 20,000 times each day, and every breath impacts our chemistry, our mental state, our wellbeing. The movement of prana on the breath has long been a part of yoga, but what is happening in our bodies when we practice these breathing techniques?

In this course we will look at the anatomy of breathing, the physiology of breathing as seen through the lens of Buteyko, and then we will examine pranayama and look at the breathing that we practice in a yoga class. Learn how to evaluate different types of breathing and how and when to teach them (or not).


Asana

In this course we will examine asana from the perspective of the role in practice and explore their various benefits and contraindications.  We will analyse common cues and popular buzzwords to develop critical eye and begin to craft a well-informed understanding of asana based on experience as well as education.

You will gain an understanding of various influences on our teaching including (but not limited to): what we read and learn; our history, experience, and expectation(s); our practice and lineage; what’s happening in the moment; and our students’ histories, experiences, expectations, etc.

Effective Class & Program Creation

Together we will learn about and practice strategies for designing progressive yoga classes of varying lengths with different themes and including different elements to meet a specific learning outcomes.  

We will consider factors such as long and short term teaching goals as well as different learning styles and yoga archetypes that help to inform our program creation.


The Art of Rest

This training is designed specifically for yoga teachers to give you first-hand experience with Restorative Yoga as a personal practice as well as tools to share this gift with others through the art of lesson planning and teaching.

You will learn the elements of this practice as it relates to the brain and nervous system.

Through this experiential understanding of the process of Restorative Yoga, you will be able to empower your students develop the capacity to receive, rest, relax, and develop emotional resiliency.


Conscious Communication

This training is designed specifically for yoga teachers to explore various communication techniques both on and off of the mat.  

We will address the challenges and barriers to effective communication and begin developing safe and healthy boundaries to inform your teaching while gaining perspective into the dynamics between the teacher/student relationship.  


You will learn various techniques and processes to allow you to offer conscious communication in your lesson planning, classes, and as a part of your life.

Adjustments & Assists That Empower


In this course we will discuss the complexities of assists and adjustments and develop an understanding and a respect for their role in practice.

We will examine the intimate quality of touch and gain a thorough understanding of informed consent, and it’s importance.

Through this experiential understanding of both the process of and impact of physical touch in a yoga practice, you will be able to offer safe adjustments to your students while empowering them, and honouring their informed decision.


From Good to Great

In this course we will further examine our understanding of teaching and hone in on your techniques to empower your students and take our teaching from good to great.

Together we will explore less common asanas, how to break them down, and the strengths and skills required to safely perform them.  We will discuss and examine how to teach progressive skill development, and gain an understanding of their role in asana progression and how to include them in your teaching.

You will refine your teaching thus far and continue to embrace your authentic yoga teacher within.
