Weekend Training with Optional Retreat

This 300-hour Yoga Teacher Training is going to be tailored for experienced movement and yoga teachers who are looking for an alternative to conventional teacher training programs. Informed by movement science as well as experience, together with this team of incredible teachers, I want to help professionals refine their skills and knowledge base and enhance their capacity as teachers and leaders in the field, while escaping for an optional weekend-long retreat just steps from downtown Kingston.

The Retreat Space

I am so fortunate to be blessed with a private retreat space that I use for our trainings on picturesque Wolfe Island, just a 20-minute free ferry ride from downtown Kingston, Ontario, Canada. Wolfe Island is an island at the entrance to the Saint Lawrence River in Lake Ontario and is the largest of the famous Thousand Islands. Snowy owls are frequently seen on the island during winter. It is also an important stopover location for migrating waterfowl, including swans, in spring and fall. Wolfe Island is home to a growing population of wild turkeys as well as deer and other fauna. On the west end of the island, Big Sandy Bay is a picturesque quiet beach and nature conservation area. Sand dunes and wetlands allow rare plant species to flourish here. There is one golf course on Wolfe Island, a corn maze, and three marked bicycle routes. As you exit the summer ferry, you enter the quaint town of Marysville, which includes a bakery, pizzeria, restaurants and various other shops and services, as well as the largest church in the Thousand Islands (Sacred Heart of Mary Church). The limestone Wolfe Island Town Hall is a National Historic Site of Canada. During the summer months in Marysville, there is bicycle and boat rental available and you can visit the Old House Museum. There is also a local grocer where you can purchase amenities as well as wine and beer, a post office, ambulance and volunteer fire services on the island. Learn more at http://www.wolfeisland.com.

2019 200-Hour Monthly Yoga Teacher Training Application Form

    CERTIFICATION CRITERIA:

This course is intended to result in your certification as a 200-hour trained Hatha Yoga Teacher. 200-hour Certified Yoga Teachers from Yoga Teacher Training Kingston must possess the skills and abilities necessary to safely and competently teach yoga in a group setting to the general population, including options for demographics such as plus-sized people, pregnant people, aging populations, etc. Please note, I reserve the right to withhold certification from any student who fails to develop the skills necessary to competently and safely teach. Rest assured, every attempt will be made to provide input throughout the course about teaching deficits that might impede certification.

I will use the following criteria to establish student eligibility for certification:

Practice Teaching: At the end of the course, you will be asked to teach a 60-minute yoga class. The course will culminate in this assignment, so you will be graded on everything we've learnt throughout, including timing of the class, sequencing, safety, student-teacher boundaries, etc. We will be practicing our teaching skills throughout the course, so you ought to be fully capable to complete this task come evaluation time.

Attendance: Those who wish to certify will need to be present for 100% of our in-person time, unless you have received written permission from me. Concessions can be made for medical reasons with a doctor's note. You must make up in-person hours missed and are responsible for the content we covered in that time. In order to certify, you may need to pay for additional one-on-one time with me.

Concept Review: Throughout this course, you will be required to write written tests based on the material in the required readings, from the in-person lecture, or that is contained in your manual. You must achieve a minimum of 75% on these concept reviews in order to progress. These concept reviews will be done together in class and the answers that you get wrong will be reviewed before your opportunity to retake the test (i.e., everyone ought to get at least 75%, so don't lose any sleep about this).

Assignments: All course assignments must be completed and submitted by their posted due date in order to receive your certification.

Fees: All program fees must be paid-in-full prior to receiving certification. Registrants who do not pay their balance due by January 05, 2019 and who have not made a payment arrangement will not be able to attend in-person components. By registering above and paying your $500 deposit for the complete course, you are indicating that you are fully committed to the program and intend to pay the remaining balance due by January 05, 2019, unless a payment arrangement has been made. Any registrant who withdraws from the Yoga Teacher Training course after January 05, 2019 or is removed for misconduct, payment failure, or not abiding by the course requirements, will not be issued a refund for this course.

Professional Behavior and Ethical Conduct: All registrants are required to behave in an ethical manner to help create and maintain a safe and professional learning environment. Registrants must abide by our Code of Conduct. Alcohol or drugs are prohibited during in-person training and any participants found to be under the influence of these substances will be asked to leave for the remainder of the session. If a second warning is required, they will be asked to leave the remainder of the course.

By completing this application, hitting APPLY below, and submitting your deposit by contacting Life Yoga at 613-546-5100, you are indicating that you have read, understood, and agreed to all the above criteria.
